I believe it to be the transfer cases.
The front and rear axles are differentials.
Locking axles was not a factory option. Limited slip rear axle was an option. many aftermarket options are available.
The axles are held in place by a "C" clip on the end of the axle in the diff carrier. You have to remove the cover on the center section to get to it. Once the clip is removed, the axle should slide out.
check the drive axles they could be bad
Sounds like your ball joints are shot. Could also be your axles. I had the same noise, clunking when i turned and it turned out to be my axles. Check the boots to see if they are ripped.
check the axles. if the axles are the same and its the same lug nut pattern then yes it should work just fine.
1993 - 1998 will all be swapable. just make sure you have the same gear ratio as the front.
All 4x4 Cherokee's came with the Dana 30 front axles. Rear axles were a mix of Dana 35's (both non c-clip & c-clip), Chrysler 8.25" ( 27 & 29 spline), and the hard to find Dana 44.
yes they will. as long as both jeeps have stock axles.
Part time is only for use on slippery road surfaces. It causes binding in the axles and transfer case if used on dry pavement.Part time is only for use on slippery road surfaces. It causes binding in the axles and transfer case if used on dry pavement.
