The only problems with the CJ-7 in my opinion is the factory emissions crap on the 4.2 (258) and the two piece axles on the model 20 rear end, unless you are lucky enough to have the 86' with a Dana 44. Get some forged 1 piece axles in the rear and get rid of the stock carb and emissions stuff and youll love it.
