Alternators don't charge 12.4 volts, If the battery with engine running is at 12.4volts your just reading battery voltage and none of the alternators output is reaching the battery, Test the output terminal on the back of your alternator it should be the same as at your battery if it is more (engine running) or less (engine not running) by more then .2 of a volt check that wire for a burnt out fuseable link section or check underhood fuse box for a blown fuse (generally about 120amp fuse). allso unplug the regulator plug from your alternator and with your ignition key in the "Run" position (engine stopped) you should have atleast 1 if not 2 terminals (depends on aplication) in the plug end coming from your vehicals wiring harness powered. if not check fuses and these wires for breaks.
alternator needs to be replaced. battery also might be a problem due to the alternator not charging it
Alternator is not charging. Have it tested and/or replaced.
If the light remains on then the system still isn't charging as it should. Check the plug on the alternator and also that the wires to the alt have a good connection.
New Alternator BUT Warning Light Still Stays OnMaybe there was nothing wrong with the alternator you replaced, and the problem is somewhere else in the charging system!Although possible, it is highly unlikely that a new alternator would be defective.
Could be a bad signal sent by the computer or the alternator is not charging to full capacity. Have someone check the charging amps on the alternator.
You can have the alternator tested free of charge at just about any major auto parts store. By the way, a bad alternator will not "discharge" a battery - the alternator's function is to provide the charge to the battery. If the alternator is faulty, then it is not providing the charge necessary to keep other components from discharging the battery. I had the alternator tested and it was charging. If the alternator has a bad diode, it will discharge the battery. I replaced the alternator and everything is fine.
check the alternator. Use a digital multimeter and with engine running you should have 13-14 volts at the battery. If less than 12.5 Alternator is not charging Also check the amperage the alternator is putting out.
94 Buick Lesabre replaced battery and alternator and the alternator is not charging the battery. Battery light is on and off. Is this fusable link. If so where is it located
Well it could be the external regulator on the right side of the engine compartment or a bad alternator . First I would have the battery checked to verify the battery is good but only after fully charging it , then try replacing the regulator first because its cheapest and if the alternator is in fact bad it should be replaced with the alternator anyway. If the regulator doesn't help then It's probably safe to assume it would be the alternator. I've had a loose plug on the alternator also that would keep it from charging, you might wanna check that and all your connections first.Hope this helps.
It depends on the year of the vehicle. Newer (late 60s/early 70s on) had "internal regulator alternators", so the alternator needs to be replaced. Older cars have a regulator, usually mounted on a fender well, the fire wall, or the radiator support which canb be replaced independently of the alternator.
could be the alternator or starter sounds like the alternator if the battery is gone flat get the alternator tested at auto parts or garage jump charging the battery might get you out of trouble for a bit
Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alt belt.
