This filter is used on the GM 8.1 Litre V8. AC A917C will fit, but A1236C is recommended for heavy-duty use. (See www.compnine.com) The A1236C has a foam pre-filter wrapped around the A917C element. Replacements for the A917C include FRAM CA3914, Purolator A34852
Ac delco's use to be good but not anymore, I use wix filters in my car and like them a lot better.
My advice would be to use an AC/Delco filter in your Chevy. AC/Delco makes one of the best filters you can buy. Other than that, Purolator or Wix make excellent filters.

The Fram Filters cross reference guide lists two replacements for AC-Delco tf242. They are Fram FT1122A and Fram FT1122.

pf46e is a plastic core filter, still a good filter though

You do not have to use OEM filters. You should however use a quality filter. Purolator, Wix, Bosch, AC/Delco, Motorcraft, Mopar, and all OEM filters are quality filters. Avoid cheap no name filters.
