Check for a vacuum leak. Check all the vacuum hoses first, then check around the carburetor. Check to make sure the carburetor is bolted down tight.
When the engine idles, it can suck in a little more air, and still run. Most of the time it will idle faster than normal if there is a vacuum leak, too.
When you put the engine in gear, it needs a more precise fuel/air ratio.
Hope this helps !!
Roughly 800 RPMS while in park and roughly 600 RPMS while in drive or reverse
park,reverse,neutral,drive,low2,and low1
A car might stall when shifting from park to reverse if the idle is set too low. It is also possible that the engine stalls because it is not fully warmed up before shifting from park to reverse.
Park , Reverse , Neutral , Drive , Low
Why would it stall or almost stall in Reverse but not in Drive? How long since it's received a tune-up and thorough check-up? How is the compression?
check your timing & up your idle a little
if battery has gone dead or has been disconected you will have to have your idle relearned How do you relearn the idle?
on newer cars with fuel injection if fuel pump sterts getting weak it could cause that happened to me
Park on a transmission is a gear that allows the transmission to idle as if its in neutral while locking the drive train to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
Park, reverse, neutral, Drive and low
To let others know that you are breaking.
Immediately passed the Park position. Neutral separates the Reverse gear and the Drive gears.
