Goddard received over 200 patents, but the two most important for space travel were liquid fuel rockets and two-stage rockets. Without these two ideas, space travel would never have happened.

The first astronaut to travel in the space shuttle was John Young. He flew on the maiden flight of the space shuttle program, STS-1, aboard the spacecraft Columbia in 1981.
Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian woman to travel twice into space. She was an astronaut who flew on two Space Shuttle missions: STS-87 in 1997 and STS-107 in 2003. Tragically, she lost her life in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003.
