They were first reported over the radio by the Apollo 11 crew during their return from the moon. Subsequent crews were asked to pay special attention to the phenomena and describe it scientifically. On Apollos 16 and 17, physics experiments involving photographic plates were performed to see whether the flashes were the result of heavy cosmic rays.
When a report asked Gene Kranz (flight director during the Apollo 13 mission) how long the radio blackout lasted during reentry, he statedPer my mission log it started at 142:39 and ended at 142:45- a total of six minutes. Blackout was 1:27 longer than predicted…. Toughest minute and a half we ever had.
Apollo 1 was never launched because a cabin fire during a pre-launch test on January 27, 1967, tragically claimed the lives of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee. The report following the investigation highlighted numerous design and safety flaws in the spacecraft, prompting a redesign of the Apollo spacecraft before further missions were attempted.
On January 27th 1967, the crew that were training for the first Apollo mission were killed in a flash fire in the capsule during a simulation. They may have launched in the following month if this had not occurred. There were many faults in the system, some of which the Commander of the mission, Gus Grissom, had complained of during his last hours. The investigation uncovered many more flaws, and it has been said that the US may not have gotten to the moon as soon as it did if the mass changes recommended in the report had not been implemented. The moon does not have a smell because it has no atmosphere to carry scents. When astronauts return from the moon, they report that the lunar soil smells like gunpowder due to the compounds present in the dust.
The first launch in the Mercury Program was on 21 August 1959 and was designated as JL-1 and was called Little Joe. It was designed as a sub-orbital flight and it truly was. The mock-up capsule was fired by an electrical fault 35 seconds before scheduled, flew to an altitude of 0.4 miles and lasted a total of 20 seconds. The mission report read: Failed to meet objectives. More then two years later the MA-5 mission carrying Enos the Chimp made two orbits on his flight and survived. On 5 May 1961 Alan B. Shepard, Jr made his sub-orbital flight to an altitude of 116.5 miles in Freedom Seven in a mission that lasted for 15 minutes and 28 seconds, traveled 303 miles and reached a speed of 5,134 miles per hour.

The Tarrare autopsy report reveals that his mysterious and extreme eating habits were likely due to a medical condition that caused his insatiable hunger and ability to consume large amounts of food without gaining weight. The report may also provide insights into the physical effects of his eating habits on his body, such as enlarged organs and digestive issues.
