Gwen really falls in love with Arthur because she thinks that he has become a changed man with humility and compassion so she starts to fall for him. It is true that when Lancelot was around, she was more hesitant to show her love for Arthur but for example, when she hurt Arthur she felt very bad. This shows that she still cares for Arthur even in the presence of Lancelot. SO, don't worry all you ArWen lovers. I think Gwen really loves Arthur though it is not confirmed who she ends up with- Arthur or Lancelot.

Yes. In the legend Arthur and Gwen are married. The producers obviously had this in mind when they created her character and, as much as I wish they wouldn't end up together, my guess is they probably will, just as there will be a love triangle with Lancelot. Hope this helped!
Merlin, is a wizard and a great friend of King Arthur.
There are many King Arthur books. The tradition is that Uther agrees to give up the child (Arthur) that he conceives on Igraine for the night of passion to lay with her before they marry. Merlin takes the newborn babe, Arthur, to be raised by Ector. Throughout his formative years, the boy, Arthur, does not know his true birthright.
Sir Ector and some think Merlin raised him. Merlin did not raise Arthur. Merlin helped Uther quench his lust for Igraine and therefore conceive Arthur but for a price. Merlin told Uther he would help if Uther consented to give up the child that would be conceived in that union. Uther of course said yes--never mind what Igraine, the mother might feel, but this was a different time from ours! Merlin knew the child--Arthur--was special and assured Uther that the babe would be raised by a man of honor--Ector.
Well, its a long story to try and sum up in just a few words, but I will give it a shot. Lance and Gwen have of course fallen for each other, and get caught. Arthur is forced (depending on which legend you read) to put Gwen on trial for treason. Lance comes and rescues her and carries her away. Meanwhile, Arthur and his sister Morgain's son Mordred, betrays him and in a huge battle, Battle of Camlann, Mordred fatally wounds Arthur, and in turn Arthur kills him. Arthur is then taken on a barge to Avalon, where he died. Some legends say that Arthur is sleeping, and in a time of greatest need will rise again.
Merlin had a sort of "love at first sight" relationship in the beginning of Series 1 with Morgana that turned to a close friendship and then to a strained relationship after she tried to kill Uther. In Series 2 it appeared that Merlin and Morgana's relationship had been repaired and they shared deep feelings for one another, but Morgana began to slowly drift into isolation because of her confusion from her powers and her hatred of Uther. Yes, Merlin did poison Morgana, but it is clear on numerlous occasions that it was one of the hardest decisions (if not THE hardest) he's ever made. He didn't want to kill her, but he had no choice. In Series 3 they do become adversaries, but it is clear that Merlin feels guilty for how Morgana has changed to this villain, and he still appears to care for her.
