Friction in the transmission system may cause whining noise when a car is accelerating. A poor engine or clutch assembly may cause the excess friction in the transmission system.

Automatic transmission is downshifting

Describe the energy transformations that occur when a person pushes a bike to the top of a hill and coasts down?

First it's chemical energy from eaten food that turns into heat, a little bit of kinetic energy and potential energy(pushing the bike uphill). Then it's potential energy turning into kinetic energy and a little bit of heat, along with some further chemical energy being used up.(coasting down)

How long does it take to get from Earth to the moon in a space shuttle?

It takes about 4 or 5 days to get from earth to the moon so if you are going to the moon pack enough food, water, and stuff to doSpace shuttles can't go to the moon. They only are made to be in earth orbit. The various Apollo missions that went to the moon took about 3 days to reach it. Space shuttles takes approximately eight minutes to reach space.

Can you save gas by coasting down hills?

Yes coasting downhill will save you fuel. However do not do this with a vehicle equipped with automatic transmission. You will damage the automatic transmission by coasting. You can do this with a manual transmission but do not shut the engine off. This would cause you to loose power steering and power brakes.

What could cause Check Engine light to blink while accelerating but go off when coasting or braking on 2002 Isuzu Rodeo?

possibly a transmission code from the ecm. i would have this checked soon. transmission damage possible.

Are you coasting if in gear with clutch in?

Of course you are coasting. The clutch has disengaged the transmission (no matter what gear) from the engine.

What is the meaning of over drive function in automatic transmission cars?

overdrive in automatic is same as in manuel (stick shift) overdrive is basically an extra gear that drops engine revs it is sort of like coasting once you get up to speed where over drive will kick in

Is shifting to neutral with an automatic transmission and coasting down hills detrimental to the car's engine and transmission?

This is not something I would recommend you do. It may do no harm and yet it may very well cause a build up of pressure and transmission problems. It will not hurt the engine at all, but I would not do this for fear of hurting the transmission. I am not sure if it will hurt or not, so until you know for sure, do not do it. My guess is that this may do harm. A new transmission can be very expensive.

When coasting at approx 5 mph and then accelerating your Chrysler Pacifica will clunk when the trans re-engages Is this normal?

I had the same problem. The dealer replaced the engine mounts at $550.

Synchro's in mx-6 transmission make noise in third gearis that bad?

Any abnormal noise in the transmission is bad - some noises are worse than others. However, you didn't post enough information to be more specific than that. Is it a manual or automatic? Does it make noise shifting into 3rd gear, shifting out of 3rd gear or when driving in third gear? Under load and coasting or just under load ... or just coasting? All the time, or just intermittently?

Why does your car stall when you turn?

try changing your ignition coil

1997 Jaguar Sovereign with 157000 miles on clock and you are getting some transmission noise when coasting which reduces when acceleration is applied?

When driving around the speed that the sound occurs, put the transmission in Neutral and observe if the sound still occurs. If it doesn't, it's something in the transmission. If it does, I'm guessing it's not in the transmission, but in the differential. Many times, noises that happen when coasting and reduce in volume when accelerating are caused by faulty bearings in differentials. If you let this sound go on, it could possibly turn into a gear job which is much more expensive than just changing differential bearings. Usually, differential sounds start at about 25 or 30MPH and increase in pitch the faster the car is moving... Hope this helps!
