well..scientists think that the large hadron collider is capable of generating enough power to travel through time..id say that's pretty interesting and needs to be researched. if scientists didnt research things..we wouldn't progress.

Are particle accelerators the same as super colliders?

Sort of. Particle accelerators are anything that take particles (usually electrons or protons) and accelerate them to high speeds. Super colliders are really powerful particle accelerators along with a bunch of equipment to measure what happens when the particles collide. So when someone talks about a particle accelerator, they're usually talking about colliders. But there are lots of things that are particle accelerators that aren't colliders. The old CRT computer monitors (heavy ones that are about as deep as they are wide) accelerate electrons and shoot them into the glass plate in front to make light, so there's a particle accelerator inside.

What is a particle accelerator known as a collider?

splits atomes

What is the name of the European Particle Accelerator?

the Large Hadron Collider

How are quarks found?

They are estimated, they cannot be isolated and therefore cannot be found. But by using particle colliders, scientists have determined that they do exist. This is because of the "color jet" phenomenon in particle colliders when a quark and antiquark pair together. The main point is, that because of the strong force, quarks inside a particle cannot be seperated; therefore quarks can never be studied singularly.

What does the super collider do?

i have no idea, i just know they are high enegy particle accelerators

Can a quark be observed through a microscope?

No, their detection requires a collider, they are a subatomic particle and their existence is inferred by their affect on other particle of matter, not by light waves.

What is the particle in the hadron collider?

The Large Hadron Collider will work mainly with protons - hence the name (the proton is a kind of hadron). It will also do some experiments with other particles, for example, with certain atomic nuclei.

What is looking for higgs Boson?

The two most prominent particle colliders that are looking for the Higgs boson are the Tevatron at FermiLab (although that one is going to close soon) and the LHC at CERN.

What scientific device is known as the LHC?

The LHC's full name is the Large Hadron Collider. It is a particle accelerator situated at CERN in Switzerland.

Is the biggest magnet strongest or the smallest?

Well that would be the Earth it's self. But the biggest man made magnet is, The Large Hadron Collider in France/Sweden. It is 17 miles in circumference and is a particle collider.

How large is the Large Hadron Collider?

The LHC is a total of 27 kilometres (17 miles) long, running along the French - Swiss border. It is 3.8 metres wide.

What is the name of the worlds largest high energy particle accelerator in Switzerland?

LHC - Large Hadron Collider (Hadron is a type of particle of which the protons and neutrons that make up atomic nuclei are examples.)
