Because Vanitas is Sora's Unversed. I don't know HOW, but all I know is that Sora, Ventus, Vanitas, and Roxas are all connected in some way. Cause Vanitas looks like A black haired, gold eyes, version of Sora, and Roxas a second version of Ventus.
Well, It's THAT or the guy who voiced Japanese Vanitas wanted him to look like Sora cause he wanted to play as a bad guy. I do know that's true. But it could be both. So we really won't know until we get the game in English.

i think that vanitas looks like sora because in the begining ventus's heart was shattered and sora fixed it by connecting their hearts. so because sora had a bigger part of the shared heart vanitas looks like him instead of ventus.
vanitas looks like sora because when ventus defeated vanitus they became one but ven hd control so when he merged with sora that's why sora looks like he does and also vanitus has rikus armor because they were both controlled by master xehnort and that's the armor they get but vanitus was more powerful because his power was decreased because he didnt take ove terras body yet... i know a little confusing

Because Ventus was deemed unfit to wield the X-Blade, a way to access Kingdom Hearts, Xehanort created Vanitas out of Ventus.Then why do most of his pictures with his actual face look like Sora with black hair?Because you saw in the beginning someone was talking to Ven and Ven's heart got completed? Well That someone was Sora. So after that when Xehanort took Ven's heart, he created a Sora/Ventus Dark side. That was after Sora shared half of his heart.

My Theory :The reason that Ven looks so much like Roxas is that in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep in the final episode When Ven goes into sora's heart and he becomes the half that Sora needed after giving half to ven because Xehanort separated the dark half from ven (at the beginning of the game)creating Vanitas, but in vens final battle when he defeats vanitas in the sanctuary ( inside Ven's heart) vanitas fades away and Ven fades into Sora's heart . then in the first Kh game when sora becomes a heartless he creates a nobody that has the Ven half of sora"s heart making roxas look like ven please tell me if i over explained it
