Niobe insulted their mother, Leto in saying during one of Leto's festivals that she was as worthy of worship as Leto for being mother to seven sons and seven daughters while Leto had only one son and one daughter; in punishment for this boast, Leto had her children kill all of Niobe's (or all but one daughter and one son).
