The 1998 VW Golf flasher unit can be found beneath the drivers side dashboard. The flasher unit relay switch will be above the gas pedal.
Located on the distributor.

they are only 1 single point injection mine does 110mph will not do a lot more than that m8 not quick but built to last like any vw

Should be in the fuse box in the drivers side knee panel.
It is part of the hazard light button on the upper right of the speedometer - clock unit.
On this model the flasher is integrated into the hazzard switch.

Its part of the hazard switch in the centre of the dash. An OEM replacement costs ~£15 or double that from VW. Check against your VIN before ordering as there are a few variations.
