The first Wal-Mart in Alabama was in Jasper, Alabama. It also became the first Supercenter in Alabama. This is an article about the former mayor of Jasper who was the manager at the Jasper Wal-Mart when the Supercenter was built (https://www.bhsala.com/workfiles/seniors/Summer%202008.pdf). This Wal-Mart is supposed to be one of the busiest in the state, especially prior to the opening of the Sumiton Supercenter which was built to relieve the Jasper store. There was one store in Alabama in the 1980 annual report and one supercenter in the 1993 report.
