check brake light fuse and brake light switch on pedal
possible faulty brake light switch...sticking....usually located on top of metal arm connecting to your brake pedal. $10 part. There's a rubber bumper that the brake pedal switch hits against to turn off. When the bumper gets old it falls off (you will notice the pieces on the floor when you get in). Without the bumper in place the switch post just goes through the hole that the bumper is supposed to be in and is never depressed and the brake lights don't shut off.
May be stop light switch--usually located at the upper end of the brake pedal under dash
Check your brake pedal, follow it up into the under dash. You should see where the pedal stop meets a bar with a switch attached. The rubber piece that triggers the swith to shut off the light when the brake is released probably broke off which leaves a hole in the pedal bar for the button on the switch to go through without being depressed to shut off the light.
