I agree with Sensei Swarthout. I began my study at age 37 and earned my Black Belt in 2012. I have Multiple Sclerosis and teach Self Defense classes. May I suggest Seniors learn to use walking cane for Self Defense? Canemasters and the American Cane Self Defense System provide great canes and instructional materials online.
Not to sure about ALL martial artist, but in China (back in the day) kung-fu was only taught to families and/or close relatives/friends. As for, people these days... you got me!
Bodidharma was an Indian monk who travelled to China. He taught Buddhism and martial arts to the shaolin monks from techniques he brought back from India. That was when martial arts was born.Second answerNo, he was not the creator of martial arts. Martial arts arise independently within cultures all around the world. Wherever there is war, there is always someone who knows how to wrestle or handle a sword. The concept that Bodhidharma knew or created martial arts does not predate the 20th century. See the paper "Ignorance, Legend, and Taijiquan" by the martial arts historian Stan Henning.
I highly doubt it. Unless rumors come out on such personal issues, we cannot sit back and speculate about what people do.
It is believed that the oldest martial art in the world is 'kalari payatu'. It is practiced in Kerala state of India, from there legend says that the Buddhaharma took it to China and it became kung fu. It went from China to Okinawa and became karate. Recently the Discovery Channel & National Geographic reported kalari payatu as the oldest martial art in the world.
Though Japanese sword play has been around for an in fathomable period of time hand to hand martial arts did not truly get introduced until after the first occupation of Okinawa in 1609. The now popular Japanese karate did not become wildly popular in Japan until after the Okinawan Master Funikoshi did a demonstration for the crown Prince of Japan in the early 1900's

When the kid grows up the seniors could die and he will go right back to the orphanage. It would be hard for seniors to take care or a child
You bet they can! I worked in nursing homes for years before going back to college. I saw my share of sobbing seniors.
There are various places where seniors can go to enter back into the dating scene. Some of the best places to go for seniors wanting to date are cultural events, exercise classes, and senior community activities.
Seniors are older than young people so knowledge is a key that they have, also back then there wasn't computers so they might be smarter than you think.
The very best way to obtain back issues of magazines are by doing a search where you type "back issues of magazines" or "magazine back issues" in the search field. You may also want to add the title you're after, for example, "People magazine back issues" or "back issues of People magazine."The prices of these earlier editions are usually cheaper than store prices for new leaves, if they are not a rare and ancient edition of the magazine, such as a collectors item.
if you go back to school
in most martial arts it takes about 4-6 years to become a black belt

i suppose it can because performing moves in front of a group of people must be really nerve racking. but them people are in the same situation and once you get to know them people you wont have a problem doing martial arts in front of them, you'll be having fun. plus the thought of being able to defend yourself from attackers is very encouraging.
Well in both you need to be fast and efficient and aware of whats going on around you like cars or people and in martial arts you need to be aware of what your opponent is doing and where they are. In both you need to have strength in your arms legs arms stomach and back. In parkour you have the risk of getting hurt easily but in martial arts there is no jumping off buildings on to concrete and parkour is a type of martial art. conditioning for both is a lot of work.
