They are created by mixing the primaries in specific proportions according to their proximity to a primary color of red, yellow, and blue on the color wheel. For example, if an orange is closest to yellow on the color wheel it means that it has more yellow in it and therefore looks like a yellowish orange. The orange that is next to the red on the color wheel has more red in it and therefore appears to look reddish.Sometimes the intermediates are referred to as tertiary colors.
