Hi

I think you mean ulterior motive - it means there's something hidden or disguised about the reasons why someone is doing something.

eg You want to go to the movies but your friend wants to go to the beach and even though you really want to go to the movies, they convince you to come with them to the beach because "it will be fun and we can swim and we haven't been to the beach in ages" but what they didn't tell you is that they really want to go to the beach because they have a crush on the lifeguard and are too scared to go by themselves!

Stupid example I know, but that's an easy way of explaining it!

A Arterial motive may be slang term?

for a thicken or hardening of a person

meaning that they may be of the criminal type
