Instead of your shot going to your heart and being spread throughout your entire body, the shot will get shoved into your hand and no where else.

You will feel a warm feeling flow up your arm to your hand. It feels quite pleasant at first...right before the feeling changes to agony! It will hurt incredibly, and relief will only come in the form of your swollen hand being too numb to feel any more pain.

If this is the first time you missed a vein and hit an artery, chances are you'll be fine. The swelling will go down in about an hour, and it will stop hurting. Hitting an artery will cause tissue damage and tissue death, but it will heal on its own as long as you're in relatively good health.

Don't panic, but if the pain or the swelling don't go away, seek immediate medical attention. People have lost limbs because of missed shots, and if there is any doubt about whether it's healing on its own (you'll know in the first 30-60 minutes) the sooner you can get to a doctor in the emergency room, the better.
