A heart murmur can go away, but if its abnormal, probably not. Innocent heart murmurs tend to go away after awhile, but it may take a few years. Or it won't go away at all

Is a heart murmur dangerous?

There are more than one reason, sometimes when a woman is pregnant, or if someone is anemic, the heart will have a "conpensatory systolic heart murmur" to just add an extra beat of the heart to give the body a little extra oxygenated blood every few beats. Also sometimes when their is a mitral valve problem, the heart will have a murmur.Often after the anemiais taken care of or the baby is born the murmur will just disappear.

Your 4 yr old occasionally states his heart hurts and points to his heart you also listened to him w your stethoscope and heard some pretty regular pauses in his heart rate w a questionable murmur?

What if it is his feelings? Or, if it is his stomach? Anything occasional is probably not to worry about. Keep a diary noting when he says that, list the foods he ate and other activities. Take the diary to his next physical.

What happens when you have a faulty heart valve and blood back washes between the chambers?

Back-flow of blood through heart valves is known as a heart murmur; for example, mitral regurgitation refers to a faulty mitral heart valve that allows blood to push back through the partly open valve. Many people have mild heart murmurs. Most are known as a "functional murmur" and cause no major symptoms, nor cause for concern. These persons must take antibiotics before teeth cleaning or extraction because of the risk of further heart damage IF a blood infection would occur as a result of the dental procedure. Otherwise, most patients with a mitral valve murmur are healthy and it has little effect on activities or health. Heart murmurs are "staged", meaning they are assigned a degree of severity. A doctor ausculates (listens) to the heart for sounds characteristic of murmur. A normal heart with no murmur causes a "lub- dub" sound in 2 distinct beats. But in a heart murmur, the sound is more 'slurred', as a lub---dubbb, with a longer version of the second sound. The characteristic of heart murmur is a distinct "swoosh" in the heart beat. Since blood "back washes" in a murmur, it is like making the heart work doubly hard: the first effort is when the heart pushes the blood through the valve the first time, then the second effort occurs when the heart must take that remaning blood (combined always with new blood being dumped into the chamber) and push it through the same valve a second time. A normal valve closes completely, similar to how a rubber band snaps back to a smaller size when stretched and let go, except a heart valve should close completely between heart beats. If the heart valve is very flabby (such as in an obese person), or if the person has a severe murmur or a second murmur, exercise and exertion can cause work that the heart cannot tolerate since demands on the heart increase during activity. Typically the person may feel extra tired, feel dizzy, or even faint from a severe heart murmur.

Heart Murmurs: Nothing to Fear?

The heart is arguably one of the most important organs in the entire human body. Because of this, it can be very frightening when a person comes to find even the slightest problem with their own. One common health-scare that many people face is finding out that they have a heart murmur. A hear murmur simply means that the sound of their heartbeat differs from the normal sounds that the heart makes when the valves are opening and closing. One of the reasons that heart murmurs occur is because of the rapidity or volume of a person's blood flow traveling to and from the heart. For most people, a heart murmur is not a serious problem and usually not life threatening. Heart murmurs are not considered to be a specific disease or condition by themselves, but can indicate other health problems which are found through further tests. Doctors typically diagnose heart murmurs by listening to a person's heartbeat by way of a stethoscope. If the doctor has reason to believe that the heart murmur is a symptom of another health issue, they will perform tests to discover any additional problems. If a problem is identified, the condition will be treated and it is likely that the heart murmur will go away on its own. However, for those that do not have an additional health issue, the heart murmur will continue. If a child is born with a heart murmur, it usually goes away as the child grows older. There is no treatment for heart murmurs other than finding an underlying condition and treating that. Doctors do not consider heart murmurs to be serious most of the time, so patients that discover a heart murmur need not panic. Instead, a person should make an appointment with their doctor for a checkup on their heart. This will help both the doctor and patient to rule out anything serious. The most important thing is to keep the heart healthy and strong which can be done through proper nutrition and cardio- centric exercises. Most people with a heart murmur have the ability to live their lives without fear or worry as long as they continue to take care of themselves and their health.
