He helped people by showing people that the color of skin and the shape of someone's nose or eyes didn't matter but to be judged by the content of ones character. Also, to people that blacks and whites are equal and there is no need for fighting or killing in the world because of the color of ones skin.
It shouldn't matter wether you are purple, blue, pink, black or white. We are all people and that's all that matters. Discrimanation is not the answer to anything nor is slavery. So, don't treat people bad just because they are a little difrent :) Trust me I am Caucasion and an African American girl picks on me because I am White. It isn't right. I wish she would know how it felt but that's not right either. Anyways i hope that answers your question XD
