For instance, in a teenager's room, you could do a couple of simple things: 1. paint one wall an accent color, like a bright green or pink. then paint the other walls periwinkle blue or raspberry. You can accent your room by then painting the switch plates, moldings, doors. 2. follow the same rule of thumb but choose a color you really like. Then paint the walls different shades of the same color! You can even control the shades by mixing white into your dark color. this will save you time and money. For more advanced techniques, go either online and look-up decorative finishes or faux finishing, or go to the bookstore or library. There are several books out on this subject.
