Inflammation Will do it You can probably treat it with a simple over the counter antui inflammatory available over the counter at a chemist. If you have the problem in both ankles at the same time and it recurs or take a long time clearing up I would definitely get checked out for Rheumatoid arthritis. This disease while not curable needs to be treated in order not to lead to more serious joint and organ damage.
