It's a charcoal pencil used for drawing. I'm an artist, I use it all the time :)

Hold it like a pen. Unlike pen though you can push it harder or release to produce a more darker or lighter colour. The pencil drawing also has the privilege of being erasable. People use it in exams, drawing and general noting as the mistakes made can be immediately erased.
A colored pencil. DO NOT use a marker! A marker will not show texture! I suppose you could use a crayon but a colored pencil works the best. Happy coloring! :)
