Valve clearance.
valve lash
you are probably refering to a rocker arm. In a pushrod motor the rocker are opens the valves. A rod rides on the camshaft and as the lobes on it come around the rod pushes up on the rocker are which does exactly that, rocks the same as the rocker on a rocking chair . The rod pushes up on the rocker which then pushes down on the valve, opening it.
The valve between the heart and the aorta is the aortic valve, and the valve between the heart and the pulmonary artery is the pulmonic valve.
Between the Atria and Ventricles of the heart are the aptly named Atrioventricular valves. The valve between the right atrium and ventricle is called the Tricuspid because id has three Cusps (of small flaps the are pushed together and closed when under pressure). The valve between the left atrium and ventricle is called the Bicuspid because it has two cusps, of more often called the Mitral Valve because its two cusps look like a bishops hat.
I believe you are referring to the "mitral" valve. It is also known as the bicuspid valve. It is the valve between the left atrium and left ventricle.
You are probably referring to mitral valve prolapse between the left atrium and ventricle.
That space is called "valve lash". It is a predefined gap set on a cold engine when the rocker arm is on the base circle of the cam.
The Rocker Arm
That is the gap between the rocker arm and valve stem when the valve is on it's seat and the cam is off the lobe. This would only apply to solid lifters.
Because the gap between the rocker and the valve is too big and what you hear is the rocker slapping the valve stem. Get yourself a manual for your car and find the valve gap so you can adjust them properly.
It is between the valve top and rocker For 4ba1 it is 0.40mm
Valve lash is the gap between the rocker arm and valve stem on cylinder heads. Proper adjustment ensures that a vehicle operates at peak performance.
That is the hydraulic lifter
Worn out rocker nut?
It is the gap between the rocker arm and the push rod or valve in the head of the engine. How much it is varies with each model of engine.
The function of a rocker arm is to control a valve in an engine. The rocker arm is a lever that rocks.

adjust the valves- the clearance between the rocker arm and the valve should be checked with a feeler gauge.
