The following 14 US Presidents were Freemasons:

George Washington

James Monroe

Andrew Jackson

James Polk

James Buchanan

Andrew Johnson

James Garfield

William McKinley

Theodore Roosevelt

Howard Taft

Warren Harding

Franklin Roosevelt

Harry Truman

Gerald Ford

Some confusion has arisen about President Carter because he took his oath of office on the George Washington Bible which belongs to St. Johns Lodge in New York City. Because the Bible belonged to a Masonic Lodge many writers assumed he was a Freemason.

This Bible was first used on April 30, 1789, by the Grand Master of the Masons in New York, to administer the oath of office to George Washington, the first president. Other presidents who took their oath of office with this Bible are Warren G. Harding, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George W. Bush.

Lyndon B. Johnson was initiated on October 30, 1937 in Johnson City Lodge No. 561, at Johnson City, Texas, but completed only the Entered Apprentice, or first, of the three Masonic degrees. For this reason, he is a Brother of all Freemason's in every way. Many think that if a Mason is not a Master Mason (3rd Degree) then he is not a Mason, this is false. When we leave this life we all where the Apprentice Apron.

Oh, dude, President Jimmy Carter was indeed a Freemason. Like, he was initiated into the craft in 1946, so yeah, he was totally part of the secret handshakes and rituals club. But hey, being a Freemason didn't stop him from being a peanut farmer or a president, so it's all good.

President Carter is a very religious man, that is why he does not have the best record as president. In the carnal world of Washington religion, if anything is looked down upon and usually not mention as an issue to anything. President Carter could not deny his faith and the faith does not mix well with worldly things such as life and business in Washington.
