In the early 1990s Aston Martin was producing fewer than 50 cars a year. It became wholly-owned by Ford in 1994 and production was increased. The company currently makes about 7,000 cars a year, a drop in the bucket in auto sales. Losing money, Ford sold majority ownership in Aston Martin to David Richards, Dar and Adeem Investment of Kuwait, and English businessman John Sinders in 2007. Ford has however retained a $77 million stake in the Aston Martin Company. Ford has stopped manufacturing A-M engines, which are now made by Mercedes
