A board foot is one square foot by one inch thick or 4 quarters (4/4). If you were using something thicker, then the square footage provided would be proportionately less. I.e. 8/4 lumber would yield half the square footage but would be twice as thick (2").

So, using 4/4 lumber would mean 2000 board feet for the house assuming no waste.
