Hi Had the same problem. I tried the following. Mixed linseed oil and turpentine 50:50. Then painted on liberally, waited 15 minutes, scrubbed with steel wool and then wiped off with a cloth. Result: better, but not solved. Tomorrow I will try just using turpentine - although I am concerned that this might remove some of the protective oil from the wood.

if you want to remove the finish from a hardwood floor, sanders fpr this purpose can be rented, normally a belt type sander. Only a skilled person should do this, it is very easy to ruin the floor by oversanding causing the grooved side of the tougne and groove joint on the edge of the stips to split, also waves and gouges are another danger.

To much exposure of water to hard floor can darken the color and warp the tiles. Though, small amounts of water (as long as it is not stationary) will not harm the floor.

Best way to clean hardwood floors is with a damp mop. Before mopping, make sure that you have removed all surface dust from the floor. To remove wax you should consider buffing out old wax and resurfacing the floor. Heat and scrape. I would recommend being careful.
