Remove the lines first then the mounting bolts.

this job usually costs about $500 - $600 at a shop, access the pump through the left front wheel well and remove the plastic covers shielding the engine from the wheel.

You'll need to remove the serpentine belt tensioner and and belt, after that its just removing the part itself.

Hey Ray==First take off the belt then the lines then the mounting bolts. Not much of a job but some bolts are hard to get to. GoodluckJoe

I think I can add to GoodluckJoe's answer: I just did this job on a 1994 Nissan Sentra 1.6L engine, so I know some of the problems and pitfalls. First, remove the high pressure line from the pump. It's a "Banjo fitting" a large 15/16 wrench works. You only need to remove the one side of that line. Pull that line up and out of the way. Next completely remove the supply line. Next remove the Reservoir. Now you have better access to the belt tension adjustment bolts so remove that assembly. The pump can now rotate inboard to loosen the belt. To actuall remove the pump from the engine you need to work from underneath the car. Make sure the car is jacked up with the front wheels about 6 inches off the ground.. There is a bolt that holds the pump to the heavy pump mount bracket. That bolt cannot be removed without dropping the engine down. (But don't do that.) All you need to do is remove the pump bracket from the engine. It's 2 bolts and one nut. The top nut is behind the pump, so with the belt off you can rotate the pump outboard to access that nut. Now with the pump and bracket loose from the engine you can remove the long bolt that holds the pump to the bracket. (These two heavy blobs of metal can now be removed from the engine compartment from the bottom.) The pump pulley and belt mounting bracket still needs to be removed from the pump. You will need a puller tool available to rent from "Autozone" to pull off the pulley. Note: to reinstall the pulley first heat it up as hot as you can get it (about 400 degrees F) without the paint burning. This makes the hole in the pulley a bit larger so it can be pressed back on the pump shaft. I used a propane space heater for this. That's about it. Good luck, and remember "if it was easy girls would do it"....

With a special tool called a Power Steering pulley remover.

The same tool will also install the pulley without damage to the pump or pulley.
You need a special puller, depending on what make/brand/type.

Often, removing a pulley from it's shaft requires the use of a gear puller or pulley puller which is available at most any parts or tool shop. The tool looks like a bolt with claws on it and will have 2, 3, or 4 claws. A 3 or 4 claw puller is better for pulleys. To use it, make sure there are no keys, set screws, or other retainers holding the pulley on the shaft, then put the point of the bolt to the center of the shaft (usually there is a divot for this purpose) and hook the claws around the pulley. Use a wrench to tighten the pointed bolt against the shaft until the pulley is removed (the pulley may have to restrained from turning). Some pulleys are retained only by a bolt or nut in the center of the pulley, in which case the nut/bolt must be removed (the pulley will have to be prevented from turning). Then slide the pulley off the shaft. If the pulley is particularly stubborn, the puller tool mentioned above may still be required.

Loosen the 99 Malibu power steering hoses and allow the fluid to drain into a bucket. Remove the drive belt. Unbolt the pump and remove. The pump pulley needs a puller to be removed. Remove the pulley, and put it on the new ;ump. Reverse the procedure to finish the installation.

There is a puller designed just for removing and installing the pulley on the pump. Most of the major parts houses will loan it to you. You leave a deposit and get it back when you return it. I just did one yesterday, got it from O'reily's and it was only $15 which I got back when I returned it.

How do you remove Allen screw from power steering pulley?

That is not a Allen screw in there. That is part of the pump shaft. If you are looking to remove the pump pulley you will need a power steering pulley puller. This tool will help you remove it and replace it, without the puller you will damage the pulley or the pump or both.

How do you replace power steering pump in 1997 lumina?

First you must remove the upper portin of the fan shroud. Remove the belt, take a pully puller and pull the pully off the pump while it is still in place.undo the lines out of the steering sector(remember the high pressure line goes back in the hole closest to the engine block) Remove the three bolts behind the pulley, then remove the two nuts on the bracket behind the pump one is under the manifold and the other is on the bottom of the block. THen take the pump out remove lines and hardware and place on the new pump. WHen installing the new pump, put the pump back in place and the press the pully back on after you have put all the bolts back in the pump.
