You can't clean them. They are ruined because they are made with PVC which has migrated to the surface over the years. Many of these albums were sold in the 80s at a premium price and Art Leather has since gone bankrupt. UPDATE: The exact same Art Leather covers are available for replacement. If your pages and mats are still in good shape, all you will have to do is purchase a new cover only, and transfer the pages over. The new covers are not made of that same "aristohyde" from the 80's, and I got mine done in less than two weeks. I found them at midwestphotographic.com It was much cheaper than buying an entire new album.
Photopaper is sticky because of the ink. Proof; sometimes when you write on a piece of paper, the ink is sticky because it is not fully dry.
Acids in paper attack the photograph slowly over time, causing it to degrade faster. Good quality albums are marked to show their pages are acid free.
You can use a mixture of 2 drops per pint of water of photoflo.
No. Do not use photo paper. I used it once and it turned out terrible. I would recommend just using poster board (with the shiny/ glossy side) The reason is it really never ends up drying. It remains sticky to the touch so you cant really display or hold it. its just a distaster

If your leather photo album cover is getting sticky, it's probably not leather, but instead vinyl. The best way to get it less sticky is to us some spay cooking oil (remove or cover pictures/pages with a gallon sized zip bag). Rub the oil in and let is soak in, repeat as necessary.
