You don't the ignition switch on a 1974 Dodge Powerwagon because there is no such vehicle. They did not make a 1974 Dodge Powerwagon!
Wrong I personelly am looking at the title to a 1974 dodge power wagon ! i own one so get facts strait or dont respond to ???
Are you talkin about the ignition coil? if so its twords back left it'll be black and cylindrically shaped simply remove and replace old wire onto new ignition coil.
First off Power Wagons have been made way back and long before 74's.
If your talking the ignition switch in the column. You have to remove the steering wheel, horn assembly, and move the directional assembly out of the way. If you look down on the right hand side there will be a hole. There is a spring loaded locking pin that you insert a small screwdriver into the hole and depress the lock than pull the ignition switch out of the column.
I had a 1973 Dodge Power Wagon W200 that I dearly love. I put a stoker Hemi in it and it would pull trucks out of the mud holes like a wild ape on fire. I can't believe someone said that they were not made back them. Get your facts straight. The Power Wagon was used in World War 2 as the main truck that transported are troops across the European theater.

I bought my 1974 Dodge Power Wagon in December 1973. It came complete with POWER WAGON hood emblems. Sales literature also identifies 4x4 as POWER WAGON.

The DodgePower Wagon was a Four_wheel_drivePickup_truckproduced from 1945 through 1980. This early version was based on a military truck and is a predecessor to the many four wheel drive pickups in use today.
To replace the switch, you; 1.Remove the upper and lower (black)collunm covers 2. You'll need a t20 torx driver that is designed for removing the tamper-proof screws (3)holding the switch in place. 3.Remove the electrical harness from the switch. 4.Remove the roll-pin(or retaining screw in some models), then remove the tumbler from the switch. To reinstall, reverse procedure.
If you don't have the specialized tools to remove the telescopic wheel, best to take it to a locksmith. Or, remove steering wheel, compression plate and wheel tensioner, signal lite switch, hazard lite switch, signal lite 'drumstick' arm, pull up on plastic switch housing and wiring harness until it clears the steering shaft, remove key buzzer holder, remove torx screw and wiggle out ignition switch. replace in reverse order using specialized telescopic steering wheel tensioner.
hey its on your steering column just past the edge or your dash its held on my 2 small bolts there is a steel bar (the plunger) coming down the column then makes a 90* turn into the switch it pops out with some presure and then the wiring for the switch its easy its two plugs that cannot be mixed up
**note** then searching for the switch it is usually green black or blue those were the 3 stock colors through the 80's it might just help you.

if you need to drop the steering column go ahaid watch out for the little cable coming from the gear selector. It is located on the column and is white it has a rod going down to it underneath unplug it and unbolt it . wil have two nuts 3/8 or so re-installl the new one with the throw rod going into the center of the new on bolt back on plufg in and put column back up. If you had an automatic put the tranny in neutral and pull the little cable till it shows neutral snap on and every gear should be lined up on indicator
The switch itself is mounted on top of the steering column. Remove the negative battery cable. Remove the cover plate below the column to get to the bolts that hold it up to the dash. Remove the screws that hold the column plate to the firewall and let it drop down. Two screws fasten it to the column. It is rod actuated, so you'll have to make sure to align the rod with the hole in the new switch, then make sure the switch itself is properly adjusted. The holes in the switch where it mounts to the column are elongated, so they are actually your adjustment screws as well. Once it's properly adjusted and working, just put it all back together.
Just replace it, it's not expensive.
BETTER HAVE THE ECM CHECKED.ITS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE CARS.ITS LOCATED NEXT TO THE BATTERY ON THE LEFT FRONT FENDER.MINE DID THE SAME THING.THE IGNITION MUDULE IS BUILT INTO THE ECM.
Ign. switch can be replaced. Remove steering column covers, switch is located on left side of column. The above is correct, but you will have to have the tumblers from your old ignition switch transferred to the new assembly IF they are not worn out. Do do the smart thing purchase the OEM as the aftermarket switch is a tad bit less pricey than the OEM, but why take a chance on an aftermarket item! NO, I do not work for a Chrysler/Dodge dealer!
It is important to have a diagram when making electrical changes to a car. A free electrical schematic for this cars ignition switch can be found in the manual, or a person can ask a tech at a shop to print one off.
No, but unhook the battery and wait 15 minutes to let the system power down.
