Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer, and became one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century.

There is little record of whatever menial jobs he may have taken while practicing his art in Paris (in 1900). He became a roommate of poet Max Jacob, and neither had much in the way of finances. Picasso received his first regular commissions from publisher Francisco Soler in Madrid in early 1901 and by 1905 had a major following in the art world.
