The swap will work . You may have to change exhaust pipe, swap the ECM with the one from the 91 engine. You are going to have to look and check the wiring harness in the 96 , You may have to swap the too.
Probably be easier just to find a used 2.2L.

Yes. The original 4.3 is the 5.7 with the front two cylinders removed - it will bolt right up to the transmission, and accept the wiring harness. You will have to swap the Blazer's computer with one from a truck that had the 5.7 though.
