HI, There are definitely a timing belt and a water pump on the engine. The timing belt is behind the cover that is on the front of the engine and when there you will also find the timing belt tensioner, they come as a set when you purchase them. The water pump is also at the front of the engine and sits at the left of the timing belt cover as you look at the engine, the pump is driven by the belt, you can't miss it. Happy repairing and good luck.Steve H.
No , the 1.9 liter four cylinder engine in a 1996 BMW 318i has a timing CHAIN
The distributor is not timed with a timing light. The distributor rotor is lined up with the mark in the pick up plate when the crank is at tdc#1. The computer then does all timing from there.
go to autozone.com and go to vehicle repair guides
Look at this: http://autorepair.about.com/library/firing_orders/bl-fo-5830.htm
Do a compression test. I'm not sure but the engine may not be a non-interferance engine which means it may have bent valves or more damage.
The 1996 Geo Tracker 1.6 liter engine timing marks can be found on the outside of the main pulley. The timing marks will be scattered around the pulley.
timing belts are usually changed every 100,000 miles and you should be go to go
e is for the exaust stroke......i is for ignition stroke......i is the one you are looking for
nothing
Flat Tracker was created in 1996.
it is in the block behind the timing cover. the timing belt drives the water pump so you have to remove the timing components to install the water pump.
check the timing belt. or on the 1996-1998 the crankshaft bolt comes loose and shears woodruff key in crank shaft.
It is behind the timing belt coves and you will have to take the timing belt off to change the water pump out
The water pump is driven by the timing belt, so.....afraid not.
remove timing chain
the water pump is located underneath the timing belt cover and requires that the timing belt be removed in order to replace it as it is driven by the timing belt.
there are 2 timing gears one on the cam (top) cog, and the bottom cog the bottom cog torque spec was revised in 1996 at the 17mm bolt, to 94/ft/lbs
