What were polyphemus' curses against Odysseus?

He wished to his father Poseidon that Odysseus would not reach his home alive. If Odysseus must arrive home alive, he would do so only after suffering many evils, losing his entire crew, and arriving in another man's ship, only to find trouble in his house.

What persuades Telemachus to continue his search for his father?

The goddess, Athene, goes in disguise to Ithaca to encourage Telemachus to deal in a manly fashion with the Suitors who are courting his mother, Penelope, and with finding out what has happened to his father. She plays a large role in aiding Telemachus to search for his father, primarily because she was very fond of Odysseus and wanted him to return home to Ithaca. Telemachus would also play a role in the battle in the hall, very important for Odysseus' success.

Who is Argos and why is he significant in the Oddesey?

Argos is Odysseus' dog. He was a puppy when Odysseus left to fight and Troy. When Odysseus returned to his kingdom disguised as a beggar, he found that his dog was old and really dirty. Odysseus could not show affection to Argos or he would give his disguise away. But once Argos saw Odysseus, he thumped his tail and could barley lift his head because he was so old. He caught sight of Odysseus and painlessly died, for he was finally at peace because he saw his master again. It is a beautiful moment in the epic poem.
