Zeus had fire and he wouldn't give it to the mortals. So the guy who made all the mortals stole the fire from Olympus and gave it to the mortals. Zeus got really angry and took the fire back and chained the guy to a mountain and sent an eagle (Zeus's symbol) to take his liver. He also sent Pandora to earth with a box that he told her not to open. Pandora followed Zeus's order for a while but then her curiosity got the best of her and out flew all the burdens in life. greed, greef, gossip, sorrow, envy... I forget the others. But when Pandora closed the box she trapped one in there: it was hope.
She was not punished; she and the box she got from Zeus upon her marriage to Epimêtheus were meant to fulfill Zeus's will for revenge against mankind (as a means to deliver misfortune into the house of man, or as a way to cheat mankind of the company of the good spirits) because Prometheus who had made them had so favored them above the laws and orders of Zeus. It would than be nine generations until the great hero Herakles came along and released the old Titan from his torture.
Zeus punished people for disobeying him in a number of ways. He punished Io by turning her into a cow and punished Atlas by making him hold a giant bolder for eternity.
Prometheus stole the fire. He was severly punished by Zeus for this.
He did not. Prometheus did.
because calabos's son stole Zeus's lightning bolt

Prometheus crafted mankind, due to the actions of Epimetheus mankind was left in a helpless shape. Prometheus also tricked the gods/Zeus into having the lesser portion of the sacrificial feast; bones for the gods, meat for mankind. Zeus did not want mankind to have fire. Prometheus stole fire for mankind; Prometheus was then bound on Mount Kaukasos where his liver was devoured daily by a eagle. Zeus had Pandora crafted, who became the wife of Prometheus' brother, Epimetheus; mankind was then punished for having meat and fire from the gods by having all the evils released on earth.
