I have not lived with my spouse for over 7 years and have had no contact with him. I just got a call informing me he is in intensive care. Am I responsible for the medical bill?

You'd better check with your attorney right away to keep yourself from owing on his debts. Contact the credit reporting agencies and let them know that you are not a signer or user on any of his credit cards and that according to the terms of your legal separation, you are not responsible. Send them copies of the separation papers as proof. If he's running up bills in other ways and you know with whom - contact them and make sure they are aware that you are not responsible. It may cause them to stop extending him credit - especially if your income has been a important part of your purchasing power. I do assume you have already cancelled all joint credit cards, joint checking, etc. If not - you'd better do it now. It's time to file for divorce. Why have you stopped with the separation?
