A car with an automatic transmission shifts itself from 1st to 2nd to 3rd when you accelerate. You don't need to shift it...that's why they call it automatic.

What causes a auto transmission to be slow shifting from first to second?

An automatic transmission might be slow shifting from first to second because of low transmission fluid. You might also have damaged the gears in the transmission at the area between first and second.

What measurements or observations tell you that a car is accelerating?

Frame of reference is the measurement or observation that tells you that a car is accelerating. It uses the second law of motion to tell you rather or not the car is accelerating.

What is wrong when shifting to second gear makes noise but shifting to other gears are normal?

Synchronizer maybe. not sure if that's how you spell it. I grind a little downshifting into second but not when shifting into any other gears. A mechanic buddy told me that's probably what it was.

Which one is equivalent to multiplying by 2Left shifting a number by 1 or Left shifting an unsigned int or char by 1?

1990 Chevy 12 ton 5.7 automatic you had the trans overhauled and a couple of months after you started experiencing hard bang shifting from first to second gear but after that it operates fine j?

You have a high line pressure problem with the 1 and 2 shift slonoids. IT may be in the valve body. stop driving or severe damage will acure in the transmission. Take to trans shop ASAP.

What would cause your automatic car to sputter and jerk bad when accelerating in first gear but be okay once it gets to second?

Try a basic tune up. New spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. When the vehicle is in first gear and you are accelerating, that is when the most load is on the engine. It sounds as though under a load, you are losing your spark because it is arcing out where it should not be.

What causes hard shifting from low to second gear in my 1995 Nissan altima automatic transmission?

Check the transmission fluid on the 1995 Nissan Altima. Bad fluid can cause the transmission to shift harder on parts that are more worn.

What is wrong with my 94 ford escort that sticks in second gear when driving.?

If it a manual transmission it could be fluid level/needs changing, shifting fork/linkage or syncro issues. If it is an automatic, the fluid level/condition can affect shifting, also if the valves in the valve body are sticking. The transmission can also just need rebuilding, clutches are worn.
