I am guessing you are asking for the origins of that quote...

It is from Alexander Pope's poetic interpretation (important to note that it is not a direct translation) of Homer's The Iliad. Pope utilized the traditional English heroic couplet format and can be considered a classic in its own right with some cool quotable stuff like the above quote.

There has been much debate through the centuries on the "best" way to translate The Iliad and The Odyssey...I won't state an opinion here, just wanted to make sure you knew it isn't a direct translation of Homer.

William Cowper's translation sixty some years after Pope's is blank verse in the style of John Milton. Cowper claimed: "I have omitted nothing; I have invented nothing" (from wikipedia). There are a whole bunch of English translations...Matthew Arnold (great Victorian poet) argued that the best translation would be rhyming in hexameters like the original Iliad which was done in Homeric Greek (pretty cool to have a language style named after you). I guess the best thing to do would be to learn ancient, archaic languages like a couple friends of mine (ah, to have the time to learn Aramaic)...but I'm the type of guy who can live with the translations...although El Cid was pretty cool when I had to translate it in Spanish class.
