Best Answer

A snowflake is results crystallization of water vapour by sublimation. These crystals form from the random addition of molecules to the initial ice crystal. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity. affect the speed of deposition. The biggest factor is where the next molecule of water attaches to the base structure. The process is random and allows the crystal to be deposited in symmetric patterns (each of the six arms is essentially identical. The symmetry results fro an energy balancing in the entire snowflake crystal.
