Ever so often I feel a need for my tailbone to feel relief. It usually has pressure on it, so if I lay down or squeeze myself together, my tailbone will make a cracking noise. It is so loud that others can hear it. I can feel it and hear it making a cracking noise, but I feel no pain. Then, once my tailbone is done with the cracking sound, it won't do it for a while until I feel the need to get relief from my tailbone again. If I ignore the need to get relief, I have extreme pain and it feels like my tailbone must be locked. If I try to lay down or squeeze myself together while my tailbone hurts, it won't budge. When I feel this pain, it tends to take days before the pain is actually gone. Please, if you know of anything that could help me, I would really appreciate it because I know it's not normal. It isn't good... But cracking knuckles and other joints doesnt cause any damage. However if you crack your neck and back, there is a possibility of pinching a nerve or straining a muscle so be careful.

Answer I have had a bad habit of cracking my neck and have been to my doctor as well as go to a chiropractor on a regular basis and I am going to tell you - NO DON'T DO IT!! I cannot stress that enough. When you are cracking your neck you are stopping it moving from the proper area it is suppose to move from and moving places that are not suppose to move which in turn cause damage. Cracking your neck can cause long term troubles such as arthritis, cause seizures when your cracking it, chronic headaches, dizziness, or even death.
You should be able to stop cold. It may take a week or so to get used to it. Instead of a real hard "cracking" motion. Try simple neck rolls. This should loosen the neck in the meantime and will prevent you from overdoing it or actually causing a problem in the neck. Keep in mind, "Cracking" your neck once in awhile is fine but doing it all the time is a bad habit because it can cause some problems. I recommend half neck rolls - roll your head from side to side slowly with your head tilted slightly forward and then tilt your head back slightly and do the same.
