First off, nothing lives in an active volcano unless it is an extremely magical thing.
However an extinct volcano would make a good place for a dragon to live as:
- They are usually forested mountainside where people do not tend to congregate
- There are lava tunnels (for the Stromboli type of volcanos) where dragons could make a cozy place to live or even nest.
- The soil is fertile.
