Yes. Alex told the chief that he thought Izzie was not well enough to be working and it was to much pressure on her. Somehow but I cant remember how.. it wasn't Alex's fault but Izzie blamed him and she left him. Then just before she came back. Alex && Meredith's sister slept together (I cant remember what Meredith's sister is called) When Izzie came back Alex told her about the one night stand and he told her to leave so he couldn't hurt her feelings anymore, so she did.
