In 1939, there were 3.3 million Jews in Poland. The Nazis made a concerted effort to eliminate the Polish Jewish population. When the war ended, only 0.3 million Jews remained in Poland.
A big part of the reason is that the Nazis, in concert with the substantial acquiescence, encouragement, and complicity of the Poles, murdered so many of the ones who used to live there, that most of the remaining shreds of communities quickly withered and died of their own. Others fled to the US and Israel after World War II.
The question reminds me a lot of Robin Williams' story, where he recalls a part of his interview on German TV. The interviewer asks him "Why do you think it is that there are so few comedians in Germany ?", to which he claims to have responded "Do you think it could be because you killed all the funny people ?".
