Admiral Arleigh Burke (died January 1,1996) was the oldest living Admiral of WWII. He was temporary promoted to the rank of Commodore (1 star Admiral) in 1944. In 1946 he reverted back to his permanent rank of Captain. However, he was again appointed a Rear Admiral in 1949. He served as the Chief of Naval Operations from 1955-1961, before retiring. A truly great Naval hero.

Depends on which rank of general you are asking about. Omar Bradley (1893 - 1981) was the last surviving five star general, Jimmy Doolittle (1896 - 1993) was possibly the last four star general, Royal E. Ingersoll (1883 - 1976) was possibly the last admiral and so on...
