How do you remove a key that is locked in the ignition on a 1999 GMC Jimmy?

There is a broken wire below your shifter in the console. This controls a solenoid that releases the key. The shifter in the center consle has a part that controls a current to solenoid in your steering column. A quick fix is a nail or piece of wire to release the key. This is in the steering column. There is a pop out that must pushed in to release the key. A longer term fix to replace the part in the shifter.

Why won't headlight on 1971 corvette go down?

underneath the steering column should be a knob that goes vertically up and down, if its down then the headlights will stay up by shutting the vacuum and if its up then the headlights will go down automatically when the light knob is pushed in.

The 1977 GMC truck will start but it wont shut off?

Most likely a worn electrical ignition switch. There is a steel rod that runs from the key cylinder to the electrical part of the ignition switch. As you turn the key the rod is pushed down and activates the different areas of the electrical switch. The switch is usually mounted on the top of the steering column with four small screws. It also has some amount of adjustment. It's possible it is just loose and/or needs to be adjusted to work properly. You'll probably have to take out the bolts holding the steering column up.. usually two bolts but maybe four. Let the steering column drop down to gain access to the switch.

How do you replace the dimmer switch on a 2004 jaguar x-type?

Remove three Torx head screws from the bottom steering column cover. The cover pieces (top and bottom) are held together with plastic clips internal to the column halves. Simply pull and wiggle them apart and remove from the column. Unplug the wiring harness by depressing the lock tab at the top of the harness and wiggling the plug loose. At the top of the switch there is a plastic tang that needs to be pushed away from the column, then simply slide the switch up and off the column. Reverse the above directions to install the new unit.
