the stomach acid is made up of hydrochloric acid which kill the bacteria, gastric juices from the lining which contain digestive enzyme pepsin which breaks down the protein molecules into amino acids. the hydrochloric acid allows pepsin to act.

Hydrochloric acid helps digest food and keep the stomach free from infection. if not enough hydrochloric acid is produced,yeast and bacteria can build up in the stomach and cause gas and other stomach problems. You can work with this acid directly in the laboratory but it is extremely corrosive, but your stomach lining is essentially a mucus barrier that prevents the acid from eating away at your insides.
