George Washington, during his first term lived in the Samuel Osgood House, also known as the Walter Franklin House, located at 1 Cherry Street in Manhattan, NY. This home housed Washington, his family, and household staff, from April 23, 1789 to February 23, 1790, while New York City was the national capital. After the capital moved to Philadelphia, a mansion at 6th and Market Streets served as the executive mansion . Washington and his successor, John Adams, lived there until the Capital moved to Washington, DC. John Adams moved into the White House in November of 1800.
