Colonial Mexico, roughly 1500-1600 A.D.

This is according to Wikipedia, which references a work (Kiple, Kenneth F., and Kriemhild Coneè Ornelas. The Cambridge World History of Food. 2 vols. Cambridge, NY: Cambridge University Press, 2000)

A previous answer (In Mexico In 732 B.C. by the Inca civilization) is ridiculous. The Incas were not from Mexico (they were from the Peru area and other areas in the Andes mountains and Pacific coast), nor an organized empire before the 1100s A.D.
